The Coast Guard says a person died Thursday in a fire at a remote fishing lodge on Kodiak Island.
Petty Officer Meredith Manning says the agency has confirmed one death and three injuries. She says has the fire has been extinguished.
The early morning fire struck a lodge in a former cannery at Uyak (OO-yak) Bay. The bay is on the west side of Kodiak Island about 60 miles southwest of the city of Kodiak.
Three burn victims were taken by fishing boat from the lodge to Larsen Bay. The Coast Guard transported them by helicopter to Kodiak for treatment.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating. Spokeswoman Megan Peters says investigators are trying to reach the remote lodge, but communications with the officers may be difficult.
