20th Annual Spring King Salmon Derby winners announced

In the 20th Annual Spring King Salmon Derby, the top prize is valued at over $12,000. That includes $10,600.00 in cash plus prizes and gift certificates from local businesses.

In the 20th Annual Spring King Salmon Derby, the top prize is valued at over $12,000. That includes $10,600.00 in cash plus prizes and gift certificates from local businesses. Prizes and cash for second place total over $2000. There were many more prizes, going down in value, until it picked back up for the person placing 20th. That was worth $500 cash!

Official standings as of Tuesday were: 1st place, David Turner, Jr. with a 29.25 pound salmon caught on Monday; 2nd place, Cole Dysinger, with a fish weighing in at 28.40 pounds caught on Monday; and 3rd place, Jason Lindley with one weighing in at 27.90 caught Saturday.

For the special 20th place cash prize, Donna James was the winner with a fish weighing in at 23.70 pounds.

Leslie Isturis says there are special prizes too, "I have all these special prizes to give out to everybody. I don't think a lot of people are aware of the special prizes."  She says for the Mother's Day prize of $100, the winner this year just happened to have won that prize last year. There are daily prizes of $100 and weekly prizes of $500 awarded for largest King caught. Plus there are more special prizes for veterans and kids, even random drawings, and a scheduled time for pick up. Leslie says to be at the Vocational Training Center on Hospital Drive noon until 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Be sure to bring your Derby Entry Ticket!
