Air emergency cancelled

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The CBJ cancelled an air emergency for the Mendenhall Valley on Christmas Day.

The Air emergency meant wood stoves and fireplaces could not be used due to the impact on air.  Clear and cold conditions normally mandate the emergency.  The CBJ reported great cooperation among residents in the valley to help keep air clean and healthy during this period.  The emergency area covered from the Airport north to the Mendenhall Glacier, west to Montana Creek, south along the east shore of Auke Lake and included the east half of the Mendenhall Peninsula.

During these types of emergencies you can get updates by calling the CBJ Woodsmoke Hotline at 586-5333.
