Alaska and U.S. Flags Lowered in Honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day

JUNEAU, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Bill Walker ordered all state flags be lowered today in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, and to honor all the men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line to maintain public safety.

Today also marks the start of National Law Enforcement Memorial Week.

“Every day, peace officers put their lives on the line to serve and protect the rest of us,” Governor Walker said. “Too many have made the ultimate sacrifice, a price their loved ones pay. Alaskans owe a debt of gratitude to these brave men and women.”

State flags should return to full-staff at sunset.
