Citizens urged to provide testimony in favor of education spending bill

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau School Board member Andi Story is calling on citizens to testify on a school funding bill before the House Education Committee Wednesday morning.

She said on Action Line Tuesday that the hearing on House Bill 339 is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Room 106 of the Capitol Building.   She said it provides for an increase of $100 per student which would amount to about a million dollars for the local district.  The total for students state wide is $25 Million.

Story says some wonder how such a measure can be approved absent a state fiscal plan. "Children have one chance at an education and we can not sell them short," she said.

In the meantime, the board conducts a work session on the budget this evening where Story says they will hear from department heads.

The work session is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 this evening in the library at Juneau Douglas High School.
