Juneau Douglas surprises Thunder Mountain at Region V tourney

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Douglas Lady Crimson Bears volleyball squad defeated Thunder Mountain in the second round of the Region V 4A championship tournament on Friday night.

Juneau Douglas beat the Lady Falcons in straight sets 25-22, 26-24 and 25-20. The loss to the Lady Crimson Bears was a first for this season's TMHS team; they had not lost to a conference foe in the regular season.

On Thursday, the JDHS squad, anchored by the solid play of junior Kiana Potter, and seniors Abby Dean and Addie Prussing, beat Kayhi 3-1 (25-8, 25-14, 14-25, 25-15).

The tournament, featuring Juneau Douglas, Ketchikan and the Lady Falcons of Thunder Mountain High School, is being held though Saturday at TMHS.

The championship game is set for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at TMHS.
