Fairbanks, AK (AP) - One of four men charged in the murder of a minor in 1997 is filing a civil suit against the City of Fairbanks.
The Fairbanks Daily News Miner reports that a man is suing the City of Fairbanks for an incident in 1997 that led to the death of a 15-year-old boy and the imprisonment of four innocent men.
Marvin Roberts filed the suit on Thursday, claiming that he was coerced into the release-dismissal agreement and that it was a civil rights violation.
The suit is against the City of Fairbanks and the four former police officers that was serving at the time. The 15-year-old boy at the time, whose name was John Hartman, was beaten to death. Marvin Roberts signed that agreement at the end of 2015, erasing the murder convictions and freeing the other three men.
