Man Shot in Fairbanks on Christmas Eve

Fairbanks, AK (KINY) - The man shot during an exchange with Troopers and the Fairbanks Police Department on Christmas Eve has been identified.

According to dispatch reports, Cody Eyre, 20-years-old of Fairbanks, was distraught and walking down Marshall Dr. off of Skyline with a firearm on his person. FPD and Troopers encountered the man near the intersection of the Seese Highway and Johansen Expressway. Around 7:30pm, Eyre allegedly brandished his firearm toward law enforcement officers and both Troopers and FPD fired up on the man.

Eyre was struck by gunfire and life saving efforts were provided by law enforcement officers while waiting on EMS. Eyre was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment, but later died to his injuries. The names of the officers involved will be released 72 hours per Department policy. The investigation continues.
