Thousands are victims of scams in Alaska

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers warned the public about another phone scam.

Troopers said an individual, usually a male, calls and identifies themselves as a trooper using various names and ranks.  They advise the people that one of their family members have an active warrant and must pay bail for them to avoid arrest and additional fines.

The victim is asked to pay the bail with prepaid credit card numbers over the phone.

Troopers said they never ask for payment over the phone to negotiate for reduced payment in lieu of arrest.

Alaska State Troopers ask the public to contact local law enforcement if they are a victim of a scam.

More information about scams are available on the agency website, https://dps.alaska.gov/AST/contacts
