Thunder Mountain takes titles in Region 5 Track and Field Championship Meet

JUNEAU, Alaska (KINY) - In track and field action this weekend, Thunder Mountain & Juneau Douglas hosted the Region 5 Championship Meet at Thunder Mountain, with 10 teams competing.

Head Coach for Thunder Mountain Track & Field Scott May reports while both local teams came away with individual and relay wins, it was the Thunder Mountain Team that walked away with the titles.  

In the boys division, Juneau Douglas took third with 24 points, Ketchikan took 2nd with 43 points and Thunder Mountain won with 107 points.  

The boys athlete of the meet was Gabe Crawford, who set a new school record in the long jump, placed 2nd in the triple jump, won the 110 meter hurdles and was on the winning 4x100 meter relay.  

On the girl’s side, Ketchikan placed 3rd with 36 points, Juneau Douglas placed 2nd with 38 and Thunder Mountain won with 87 points. The girl’s Athlete of The Meet was Thunder Mountain’s Audrey Welling, who won all four events she entered.

In the 2A/3A division, Sitka boys and girls were the small school champions, edging out Petersburg who placed second in both.  

All event winners will be advancing to the State Championship Meet in Palmer this coming weekend.
